Few days ago I participated in a conference about personal data protection which was organized by Akademia Leona Kozminskiego and GIODO in Warsaw. The conference titled “Personal Data Protection in Labour Law” was focused on the issue of privacy in relation to labour law and new technologies used to control employees during their working hours. There were several interesting lectures, some of which will be available shortly on GIODO’s website (in Polish only, I believe). Here are some conclusions which are worth pointing out: - collecting personal data during an employment process is problematic for employers, in particular it is unclear in what scope it can be processed (gathered), - there are known issues related to privacy and personal data protection in the process of cooperation between employers and trade/labour unions, - new technologies give new opportunities but nobody knows where the acceptable limit of supervising employees is.
